The Fund’s Inception

Michelle’s Rainbow Story

Michelle M. Adey, the 6-year-old daughter of Michael Adey and Mary Carmel (Adey) Wolf, died in 1982 due to Cystic Fibrosis.

Michelle was a typical little girl in many ways. Michelle liked Strawberry Shortcake toys, bedsheets, watches, and any other component of Strawberry Shortcake.

Michelle had a love for language and was learning French words and sentences taught to her by her mother, Mary Carmel (Adey) Wolf, a French teacher. Michelle even was a cheerleading mascot for the basketball team her father, Michael Adey, coached at Rome Catholic High School in 1980. Michelle loved to draw and color, especially rainbows, and creating art. She used her talent often and even designed her own birthday invitations.

Michelle’s Legacy

With the help of family and friends, The Michelle Adey Fund was established in memory of Michelle to assist the other families whose children face serious illness.
In 1986, it was incorporated and registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization making all contributions tax deductible.
The fund is run by an all-volunteer board. Therefore, there are very few administrative costs (average under 2%) and virtually every dollar raised goes directly to families.
